The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is preparing to start supplying electricity to the national grid by November, with initial physical and criticality tests already underway.
The second unit is targeted to complete fuel loading and reactor startup by June next year.
The progress was discussed at the first meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Science and Technology at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Wednesday (October 14).
The meeting, chaired by committee chairman and Chief Whip Ruhul Quddus Talukdar Dulu, expressed optimism about meeting the deadline following discussions with Russia’s state-owned nuclear corporation Rosatom.
Officials said the third-generation nuclear power plant is being developed under strict expert supervision and in line with international standards.
The meeting also discussed expanding nuclear medicine facilities at district level, building the country's first research vessel, organising science fairs and promoting local innovations for export.
