Manarat Dhaka International School & College (MDIC) in Gulshan of Dhaka is set to host the two-day ‘MDIC STEM Fest 2026-27’ on October 16 and 17, aiming to promote scientific thinking, innovation and technological skills among students. The Daily Observer has been named the media partner of the event.
The 17th edition of the festival will be held on the institution’s campus on Friday and Saturday. It is organised by the Manarat Club for Co-Curricular Activities (MCCA) and managed by the Manarat Science Club (MSC).
The festival will feature 17 events, including science projects and exhibitions, mechanical and civil engineering projects, chemistry and physics experiments, robotics shows, programming and gaming competitions, science and IT olympiads, science fiction writing, wall magazines, Rubik’s Cube solving and debates.
The science olympiad will cover mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and astronomy. Students will compete in three categories according to their academic levels: A1 for Classes III–V, A2 for Classes VI–VIII and A3 for Classes IX–XII.
Brigadier General SM Mahbub-ul-Alam, OSP, SGP, ndc, psc (Retd), principal of Manarat Dhaka International School & College, said the institution was established in 1979 and had been organising a science fair every year.
“This is the second time the Science Club has organised the event. By the grace of Allah, we have received an overwhelming response. Around 800 contestants are expected to participate this year,” he said.
He added that the institution had signed agreements with the University of Dhaka, the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) and BRAC University in science-related areas.
Dr Maksudul Alam, convener of the STEM Fest and in-charge of the Manarat Science Club, said co-curricular activities played a vital role in developing students’ hidden talents and fostering a positive attitude towards science and technology.
“The aim is not merely to win or lose, but to learn from failure, turn new ideas into reality and develop a mindset of applying those ideas for human welfare,” he said.
The organisers said winners would receive trophies, medals, certificates and prizes at the closing ceremony. They also sought the cooperation of teachers, students, guardians and well-wishers to make the festival a success.
