The Jagannath University (JnU) administration has clarified its stance and expressed regret over a recent directive restricting animal slaughter on campus, affirming that all members of the university community hold the right to organize events, including animal slaughter, on campus premises.
The clarification was issued on Wednesday (October 14) through an official press release signed by the university’s Public Relations, Information, and Publication Office.
According to the press release, the initial directive followed an untoward incident on the night of October 12 involving khichuri cooking on campus. While the Proctor resolved the immediate misunderstanding on the spot and the parties involved reached a satisfactory resolution the following day, the Proctor had orally advised against animal slaughter to prevent further tension.
The administration acknowledged that this advice caused unwanted confusion and expressed regret over the matter.
"Everyone has the right to celebrate any event, including animal slaughter, on campus. However, everyone must ensure that one celebration does not impede another," the press release stated.
The administration also dismissed social media rumors claiming that show-cause notices were issued to several students following the incident, terming the allegations entirely baseless.
Furthermore, the university authority urged teachers, students, officers, and employees to maintain a harmonious, tolerant, and peaceful academic environment on campus through mutual cooperation and responsibility.
