A private ambulance syndicate has been accused of occupying hospital premises and charging excessive fares at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.

Patients' relatives reportedly pay Tk 4,000–5,000 for a 20-kilometre journey. Government ambulance driver Masud alleged that private operators threatened him for transporting patients at government-fixed rates.

Hospital Director Dr Md Aminul Islam said the hospital had three ambulances but lacked sufficient drivers, forcing patients to rely on private services.

Gazipur Civil Surgeon Dr Md Mamunur Rahman said the issue had been raised at a law and order meeting and pledged action against ambulance syndicates operating outside hospitals.
