Data collection for the Family Card programme began in Sylhet on Friday.
Sylhet City Corporation Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury formally inaugurated the data collection process for Wards 1, 2 and 7 in the city’s Rajar Goli area around noon on October 16.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural event, Chowdhury said the Family Card, Farmer Card and various social welfare programmes were among the major electoral pledges of the BNP government.
He said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had taken initiatives to implement the programmes immediately after assuming office. The government would gradually distribute Family Cards to every household across the country, he added.
As part of the initiative, information is being collected from households in all 42 wards of Sylhet City Corporation.
Chowdhury stressed that accurate data collection was crucial to the successful implementation of the Family Card programme. Inaccurate information could leave poor families deprived of the benefits, he warned.
He said, qualified personnel had been recruited and provided with necessary training to collect the data. They had also been given tablets to enter the information directly into the database.
He instructed the data collectors to ensure accuracy in their work.
Among those present at the inauguration were Sylhet City Corporation Regional Executive Officer (Region-5) Nusrat Laila Nira, Sylhet District Social Services Office Deputy Director Md Abdur Rafiq, Ward No. 1 BNP President Raihan Uddin Munna, Vice-President Syed Rajon Ahmed, Senior Vice-President Ejaharul Haque, General Secretary Nazir Hossain, Organising Secretary Abul Montaser Chowdhury, Rajar Goli Samaj Kalyan Sangha President Manjurul Islam Chowdhury and SCC Public Relations Officer Nehar Ranjan Purokayastha, along with relevant officials and local dignitaries.
Social Services Officer Mohammad Shahinur Alam of the City Social Services Office conducted the programme.
