Nur Alam, a resident of Chuadanga, has been left speechless with grief after losing his wife and only son in a fire at TupTup Resort and Restaurant in Inani, Cox’s Bazar, on Saturday.

Nur Alam travelled to Cox’s Bazar with his wife, Fariha Kabir, 33, their son Faizan Ahmed, and four other family members on October 14. He returned to Chuadanga on Friday for work, leaving them behind.

“They were supposed to return today. I do not know how the fire broke out. My wife, son and four other family members died after being trapped there. I cannot say anything more,” he told Dhaka Post over the phone.

Fariha was ill and needed assistance to move around, prompting the family to travel together to ensure her care.

Faizan, 7, was a second-grade student at Pradipan Secondary School in Chuadanga.

The fire broke out around 7:30 AM at the wooden resort near Patwartek Beach along Marine Drive in Inani, Ukhiya. The Fire Service said 10 bodies had been recovered and several people injured.

Nur Alam had lived with his wife and son in a rented house in Chuadanga for eight years. Their room remained locked on Saturday as he rushed to Dhaka following the tragedy.
