Narayanganj-2 MP Nazrul Islam Azad visited 38 Durga Puja mandaps in Araihazar upazila on Sunday night, exchanging greetings with devotees and party activists during the Hindu community’s largest religious festival.
During the visits, Azad said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had directed authorities to strengthen security at Puja mandaps to prevent untoward incidents.
“Religion belongs to individuals, but Bangladesh belongs to everyone,” he quoted the prime minister as saying.
Azad also said his party had tried to ensure the safety of Hindu communities even when it was not in power, following the instructions of BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman.
Additional Superintendent of Police Mehedi Hasan, Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Sabujel Hossain and leaders and activists of the BNP and its affiliated organisations were present during the visits.
