Observer Online Report

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered a 7.62mm submachine gun (SMG), 100 rounds of ammunition and two button mobile phones during an operation near the Pancharhi border in Khagrachhari.

The recovery was made during a routine patrol on Friday night, October 16, led by Naib Subedar Md Emdadul Haque of the Boudhamonipara Border Outpost under Pancharhi Battalion (3 BGB), according to a BGB press release issued on Saturday.

At around 8:15 PM, the patrol team spotted a group of 10 to 12 suspected individuals carrying bags on their shoulders as they came down from a border hill towards the border road in the Kochhuchharimukh Para area.

When BGB members challenged them, the individuals attempted to flee. The patrol team pursued them, but they escaped into dense forest on a nearby hill.

A subsequent search of the scene and surrounding areas led to the recovery of the SMG, ammunition and two button mobile phones in abandoned condition.

The process of handing over the recovered weapons and ammunition to Pancharhi Police Station is underway.

Pancharhi Battalion (3 BGB) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Robiul Islam said BGB operations and surveillance would continue to ensure border security, protect the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and prevent arms and ammunition smuggling and other criminal activities in border areas.
