BNP began preparations a month ago to help ensure security during Durga Puja, forming a national committee and directing party leaders across the country to coordinate with local organisers, BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Saturday.
He made the remarks while visiting Mirpur Central Temple, where he exchanged greetings with members of the Hindu community.
Rizvi said the party had formed a national committee to coordinate security measures during the festival. District-level leaders had also been instructed to work with local Puja celebration committees and take necessary steps to protect temples and Puja mandaps.
Rizvi said BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had directed party leaders and activists at all levels to remain alert and ensure there were no gaps in security.
He added that BNP leaders and activists were keeping watch over temples and mandaps across the country.
Describing Durga Puja as a festival for people of all faiths, Rizvi said it was no longer limited to the Hindu community, as people from different religious backgrounds now joined the celebrations.
