The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has foiled an attempt by India's Border Security Force (BSF) to push 12 people, including women and children, into Bangladesh through the Burimari-Bamandol border in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat.
Following intervention by the BGB, the attempt was unsuccessful. The 12 people are currently staying inside Indian territory near the border.
According to BGB and local sources, the BSF attempted to push the group, comprising two children, two women and eight men, into Bangladesh around 3:00am on Sunday near border pillar No. 838/1 at the Burimari-Bamandol border.
After receiving the information, BGB personnel immediately took positions at the scene, preventing the attempt.
Local sources said, the 12 people were staying approximately 100 yards inside Indian territory. The BGB has strengthened patrols and surveillance along the border to prevent them from entering Bangladesh.
