The Special Response Battalion (SRB-13) has strengthened security at 268 Durga Puja venues in Panchagarh to prevent sabotage and criminal activities.
The battalion’s cyber monitoring team is also keeping round-the-clock watch on social media to curb rumours and provocative content.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Rohani Parvez Roni, acting company commander of Nilphamari CPC-2 under Rangpur SRB-13, disclosed the measures at a press briefing at Panchagarh Central Sarbojanin Durga Temple on Sunday.
He said the measures include regular patrols and intelligence surveillance by plainclothes personnel. SRB-13 members remain on alert to deal with any untoward situation.
Roni urged people to verify information before sharing it on social media, warning that rumours and false information could trigger unrest.
The celebrations began with Shashthi on October 16 and will conclude with Bijoya Dashami on October 21.
SRB members, local puja committee representatives and journalists attended the briefing.
