‘We have found a good driver after 55 years’: Whip Nijan

Laxmipur, Oct 18: National Parliament Whip and Laxmipur-4 MP ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan has described the prime minister as a “good driver” capable of leading the country, saying the nation had waited 55 years for such a leader.

“Just as a good driver ensures a smooth journey, a capable prime minister is needed to run the country. At last, we have found a truly good driver who loves the people from the heart,” he said.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at a Durga Puja programme at Shri Shri Nitai Gaur Sebashram Puja Mandap in Karunanagar, Kamalnagar, Laxmipur, on Sunday afternoon.

Nijan distributed sarees and lungis among members of the Hindu community after the programme. He said the prime minister had sent sarees to more than 100,000 puja mandaps as a gesture of generosity and communal harmony.

“If Muslims receive sarees as gifts during Eid, why should Hindu mothers and sisters not receive them?” he said.

He said the prime minister had instructed officials to reduce wasteful expenditure, save electricity, avoid unnecessary vehicle use, protect state resources and remain free from corruption. He also praised the prime minister for not allowing political opponents to be harmed.

Nijan urged Hindu devotees to pray for the prime minister’s long life and continued service to the country.

He said humanity was the greatest religion and that the arrival of Goddess Durga symbolised the fight against evil, injustice and oppression.

Local administration and police officials, along with BNP leaders and representatives of its affiliated organisations, attended the programme.
