A section of the Dhaka Bypass Expressway will offer toll-free passage to all vehicles from 20 to 24 October to ease travel during the Durga Puja holidays.
The Pulbachal–Bhulta section will remain toll-free for five days, allowing holidaymakers and commercial vehicles to use the route without paying tolls.
The project company said the previously obstructed K22 section had been connected to the operational mainline, enabling uninterrupted traffic flow along the first 35 kilometres of the expressway’s mainline.
The toll waiver is intended to ease congestion and help people travelling to their hometowns and visiting family during the festive period.
The project company has also prepared a holiday traffic management plan involving toll station personnel, highway patrols, emergency response teams and security staff. Road inspections, emergency assistance and traffic diversion measures will be in place to maintain safety and orderly traffic flow.
The Dhaka Bypass Expressway is approximately 48 kilometres long and connects several national highways, providing an alternative route for traffic travelling between Dhaka and the country’s northern and north-eastern regions.
The project is being developed and operated by the Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company, a consortium comprising Sichuan Road & Bridge (Group) Co Ltd, Shamim Enterprise (Pvt) Ltd and UDC Construction Ltd.
The expressway is a public-private partnership project aimed at improving regional connectivity and reducing pressure on roads around the capital. Work on the remaining sections is continuing.
The toll-free arrangement will allow motorists to use the designated section without charge during the five-day period, while the project company has urged travellers to follow road safety measures during the holidays.
