Man hacks dead son-in-law at Moheshpur

JHENAIDAH, Oct 21: A 30-year-old man was hacked to death early Tuesday morning by his father-in-law following a family dispute in the Moheshpur Upazila of the district.

The victim, Abdur Rahman, was the son of Qari Golam Rahman from the neighbouring Kaliganj Upazila. The suspect, Tarikul Islam, is a resident of Bolibhadrapur Village in Moheshpur.

According to police and local residents, Rahman had been visiting his in-laws’ home in Bolibhadrapur. Tensions had reportedly persisted between the two men for some time.

An argument escalated early Tuesday, prompting Islam to allegedly attack Rahman with a sharp axe, inflicting fatal injuries. Rahman died of excessive bleeding at the scene.

Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing screams, detained Islam, and informed the police. Officers arrived shortly after, recovered the body, and arrested the suspect.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Moheshpur Police Station Imran Alam confirmed the incident and the arrest of the father-in-law.
