Real Madrid beat Leipzig 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu to make it three wins from three matches in the UEFA Champions League.

The Los Blancos went ahead in the first half, then scored three more. Leipzig pulled one back late in the game.

The record champions of the Champions League dominated the German club throughout. Real had 64 per cent possession and took 11 shots on target. Leipzig had six shots on target.

Bernardo Silva, Arda Guler, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande scored one goal each for Real.

Real had a good chance in the 16th minute. But Vinicius and Mbappe could not get a touch on Guler’s pass across the goalmouth.

Leipzig came close to scoring in the 28th minute against the run of play. Home goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved a powerful shot from the edge of the box. Vinicius then beat a defender and shot hard in the box. Leipzig goalkeeper Maarten Vandevoordt dived to save it.

In the 41st minute, Courtois saved Christopher Nkunku’s one-on-one shot to keep the goal intact.

Real then broke the deadlock. Guler hit a hard shot after a cutback from Federico Valverde. The Leipzig goalkeeper stuck out a leg to stop it, but the ball went under it. Silva rushed in and tapped it into the net.

It was the first goal for Silva, a Manchester City signing this season, for Real.

Real pushed for more in the second half. Leipzig conceded the second goal just after saving a hard shot from Valverde. Mbappe headed Jude Bellingham’s cross slowly towards goal, and Guler touched it in on the goal line to make it 2-0.

Mbappe added a third in the 83rd minute. He took a pass from substitute Diomande at the edge of the box. After a quick look, he hit a powerful shot into the net.

Mbappe has now scored in all three Champions League matches. It was his 12th goal of the season in all competitions.

Tidiam Gomis pulled one back for Leipzig in the 85th minute. But two minutes later, Diomande restored the three-goal margin against his former club with a bullet volley in the box.

Real have now scored four goals in each of their last three matches and have won their last four.

Mourinho’s side will face El Clasico in La Liga next Sunday and will want to close a six-point gap there.

Real are fourth in the Champions League table with nine points. Paris Saint-Germain are top on goal difference with the same points, followed by Aston Villa, Liverpool and Real Betis.
