England captain Harry Brook has set a new world record for the fastest double century in One-Day International (ODI) cricket, breaking a record held by India captain Shubman Gill. Brook reached the 200-run milestone in just 114 balls, unleashing a remarkable assault on Sri Lanka’s bowlers.

Brook produced a sensational performance against Sri Lanka in a tri-nation series match in Rawalpindi on Thursday. He scored a blistering 202 off 116 balls, surpassing Gill’s record of 117 balls for a double century against the West Indies last month. Brook broke the record by one delivery.

Powered by Brook’s extraordinary innings, England piled up 429 for four in their allotted 50 overs. It was the highest ODI team total on Pakistani soil, giving England a commanding position with their captain leading from the front.

Rawalpindi has already been a memorable venue for Brook. He previously scored a triple century in Test cricket at the same ground. By registering his maiden ODI double century there, the England star added another remarkable achievement to his record at the venue.

Brook became the latest addition to the list of batters who have scored double centuries in ODI cricket. India’s Rohit Sharma leads the list with three double centuries, while Gill has scored two.

Other batters to have reached the 200-run mark in ODIs include Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Martin Guptill, Fakhar Zaman, Ishan Kishan, Glenn Maxwell and Pathum Nissanka.

Brook’s innings in Rawalpindi not only powered England to a massive total but also added a new chapter to ODI cricket history. By overtaking Gill, the England captain established himself as the fastest batter to score an ODI double century.
