Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has announced a temporary break from work on medical advice, saying he needs a few days of rest to recover.
The 84-year-old actor shared the update in a recent post on social media platform X, apologising to fans for his silence and explaining why he would be less active for the time being.
“Apologies. I have been advised to take some time off work and rest for a few days to recover. Hence, unable to write,” Bachchan wrote.
However, the veteran actor did not disclose the specific medical reason behind the advice. It also remains unclear whether the break is related to a recent knee injury he sustained while shooting for the 18th season of the popular quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati.
Earlier, Bachchan had told the show's audience that he had slipped and injured his left knee during a shoot the previous day. He usually delivers his opening remarks while standing at the centre of the stage, but on that occasion, he addressed the audience while seated because he was having difficulty standing.
The actor said the knee pain made standing uncomfortable, although he reassured viewers that the injury was not serious. He later indicated that he would try standing while interacting with contestants.
Bachchan, who recently turned 84, remains one of India's most recognisable film stars and has continued to work actively despite his age. He has hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati for many years, making the show a major part of his television career.
His announcement of a temporary break has prompted interest among fans, who are awaiting further details about his health. The actor has not indicated how long he will remain away from work beyond the few days of rest recommended by his doctors.
