Two dead as truck hits autorickshaw

Two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a battery-powered autorickshaw in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj on Thursday.
The accident occurred around noon in the Maikuli area of the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway.
The deceased were identified as Shahnaz Begum and Rifat Hossain, both residents of Maikuli in Rupganj. The three injured were rescued and admitted to a local hospital.
Jasim Uddin, inspector and in-charge of Bhulta Highway Police, said a battery-powered autorickshaw carrying passengers was heading towards Rupshi when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction collided head-on with it.
The autorickshaw was severely mangled in the collision.
The police official said two people died on the spot and three others were injured. The truck was seized following the accident.
Legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident, he added.
