Three persons were murdered in separate incidents in Dinajpur, Narayanganj and Magura districts in two days.
DINAJPUR: A 40-year-old night guard was stabbed to death early Thursday in the town’s Sipahipara area after attempting to foil an equipment theft at a bridge construction site.
The victim, Titu, was the son of late Siddique from the town’s Linepar area.
Police and family sources said Titu was temporarily guarding the under-construction bridge while his elder brother and regular guard, Biplob, went home for a meal. At around midnight, Rizon, 26, son of local resident Raju, allegedly attempted to steal a battery and road-cutting equipment used for the project.
When Titu screamed, Rizon stabbed him with a sharp weapon before fleeing. Family members and locals rushed Titu to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Police Station (PS) Nurnabi said the body was sent for an autopsy. Police are trying to arrest the suspect, and a murder case will be filed if complained.
NARAYANGANJ: Jahir Fakir, President of the Jubo Dal in Kalapaharia Union, was hacked to death by a group of 20-25 assailants in Charhogla Village on Wednesday night, reportedly over a longstanding feud linked to an upcoming union parishad (UP) election.
Fakir was attacked while walking home from his pharmacy. Locals rescued him and took him to Munshiganj General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
His relatives alleged that Mubarak Hossain, with whom Fakir had a dispute, orchestrated the attack. They said Fakir had been targeted in previous assaults and demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible.
Sonargaon PS OC Abdul Barik said the body had been sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.
MAGURA: Shaker Hossain, Joint Convener of Magura Municipal Jubo Dal, was allegedly shot dead by unidentified assailants at a Royal Express bus counter at Magura Central Bus Terminal early Wednesday.
Hossain, who was also a counter manager for the transport company, was found unconscious by staff and taken to Magura 250-bed Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead. An emergency department physician said a gunshot wound was found to the back of his head and part of a bullet was recovered.
Locals alleged that several assailants arrived on motorcycles and opened fire before fleeing. Their identities and motive remain unknown.
Superintendent of Police Molla Azad Hossain said police arrested two persons named Shamima Tabassum Lubna and Roni Sikder in this connection.
Manowar Hossain Khan, MP for Magura-1, described the incident as a planned murder and called for a thorough investigation and punishment of the perpetrators.
