SIRAJGANJ: Police recovered the body of an unidentified man, aged about 50, from the approach highway near the eastern side of the Nalka Bridge in the district early Thursday.
Police suspect he might be killed after being struck by a vehicle on the Jamuna Bridge West highway in Sirajganj.
Mohammad Amirul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jamuna Bridge West Police Station (PS), said the man was wearing a black T-shirt and a lungi. Police said local residents identified him as a person with mental health difficulties who was frequently seen around the Nalka Bridge area.
The OC said the man’s identity has not been established and efforts are underway to identify him and determine the circumstances of his death. His body was sent to Sirajganj Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
BRAHMANBARIA: Police recovered the body of Ratna Das, 30, from a pond near her home in Nasirnagar Upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon, four days after she went missing.
Her hands and feet were tied, a sack filled with stones was wrapped around her body, and a towel was around her neck, according to a local union parishad member.
Das’s brother, Srinibas Das, filed a murder case naming six people, including her husband, Sushil Das, as suspects, police said.
Das disappeared from her home in Khagalia Village on October 17. Her husband filed a GD with Nasirnagar Police Station (PS) the following day. Local residents spotted the body floating in a pond on Wednesday afternoon and informed police and her family, who identified her.
Nasirnagar PS OC Shahinul Islam said the body has been sent to Brahmanbaria District Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. Police are investigating the killing and working to arrest those involved.
Her family said Sushil’s mobile phone had been switched off since the incident.
