Police have arrested a madrasa teacher and the institution's director over allegations of sexually abusing six residential students and attempting to cover up the crime at a Qawmi madrasa in the Gacha area of Gazipur city.

The arrests were confirmed by police following a case filed by the mother of one of the victims under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to the case statement, Md Oliullah Islam, 23, a teacher at Darul Hedaya Qawmi Madrasa in Kalameshwar, allegedly sexually abused a seven-year-old residential student on multiple occasions between October 10 and October 12 using threats and allurements.

The incident came to light after the child fell ill and informed his family. Subsequent inquiries revealed that at least five other students at the madrasa were subjected to similar abuse by the same teacher.

The victim's family alleged that upon learning of the incident, madrasa director Mohammad Mizan, 38, and a local resident, Md Abdul Kuddus Sheikh, 42, attempted to hush up the matter and threatened the victim's parents instead of taking legal action.

Police arrested teacher Oliullah Islam and director Mohammad Mizan during a raid shortly after receiving the written complaint. Officers stated that investigation into the allegations and cover-up attempts is underway, with efforts ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspect.
