A garment worker was killed when the wall of a mud house collapsed on her in Kaliakair, Gazipur, on Sunday, leaving behind her two young daughters, aged eight months and seven years.
The deceased, Asia Akter Ripa, 35, was the daughter of late Anwar Hossain and a resident of Nishchintapur Bot Tola area of Kaliakair upazila.
The accident occurred around 11:30am on October 25.
According to the victim’s family, they were not warned before a neighbouring mud house was demolished. During the demolition, a wall collapsed onto their kitchen, trapping Ripa underneath and leaving her critically injured. She later died.
Family members alleged that the incident was a planned murder and demanded a fair investigation, punishment for those responsible and compensation.
Repeated attempts to contact Syed Sultan Shah for comment on the allegations were unsuccessful.
Kaliakair Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahidul Islam said he had heard about a woman’s death after being crushed by a collapsing wall. Legal action would be taken if the victim’s family filed a complaint, he added.
Ripa’s death has raised concerns about the future of her two young daughters. Her family has called for a proper investigation and justice.
