Saudi Arabia has issued emergency alerts in the southern city of Abha and the southwestern city of Najran over potential security threats, urging residents, including expatriates, to move to safe shelters.

The Civil Defence authority issued the warning on Tuesday through the national emergency early warning system. Sirens were sounded amid fears of potential danger, and residents were advised to follow safety instructions and seek shelter.

According to Anadolu Agency, the initial alert did not specify the nature of the threat. It was also unclear whether the incident had caused any casualties or damage.

Tensions between Yemen's Houthi group and Saudi Arabia have prompted several security alerts in different parts of the kingdom in recent times. The Houthis have claimed missile and drone attacks targeting various Saudi facilities, while the Saudi-led coalition has reported intercepting missiles and drones launched by the group.

However, no immediate confirmation was available on whether Tuesday's alerts in Abha and Najran were directly linked to any specific missile or drone attack.
