Bangladesh won gold in the compound women’s team event at the Asian Cup Archery Championships in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, defeating Kazakhstan 230-220 in the final on Wednesday.

Bannya Akter, Sriparna Biswas and Kulsum Akter Moni represented Bangladesh in the event. The Bangladeshi trio defeated Kazakhstan in all four sets to secure the gold medal.

Bannya had a chance to win a double crown on the day, partnering Rakib Ahmed Newaz in the compound mixed team event. However, the duo lost 153-142 to Kazakhstan in the final.

The two sides were tied 38-38 in the first set before Bangladesh fell behind 29-39 in the second. The 10-point deficit proved decisive. The third set ended in a 37-37 draw, while Bangladesh lost the final set 38-39.

Bangladesh’s compound men’s team also missed out on gold, losing 230-224 to Kazakhstan. Himu Bachhar, Tarikul Islam and Rakib Newaz represented the country in the event.

Bangladesh fell behind 54-59 in the second set, while the third ended in a 57-57 draw. Although the team won the final set 60-59, the deficit from the second set proved costly.

Meanwhile, Kulsum Akter Moni won bronze in the compound women’s individual event, defeating Kazakhstan’s Ayazan 116-110.

Bannya Akter will compete in the final of the same event against Kazakhstan’s archer Milana on Thursday. Bangladesh’s recurve men’s and women’s teams will also compete for places in their respective finals on the same day.
