Bangladesh ended the third day of the first Test against West Indies in a precarious position, losing six wickets for just 79 runs in their second innings after Nayeem Hasan's four-wicket haul had given the hosts a narrow first-innings advantage in Mirpur on Friday.

At stumps, Bangladesh had stretched their overall lead to 106 runs, with Nayeem and Jaker Ali Anik both unbeaten on 18. But with only four wickets remaining and the pitch offering increasing assistance to spin, the hosts face a difficult task to build a challenging target.

Earlier, West Indies were dismissed for 245 in reply to Bangladesh's 272, giving the home side a 27-run lead. Off-spinner Nayeem led the bowling effort with four wickets for 33 runs, while Taijul Islam and Mehidy Hasan Miraz claimed two apiece.

Nayeem's performance also brought him a personal milestone, as he became the fastest Bangladeshi spinner to reach 50 Test wickets.

West Indies resumed the day at 134 for four and looked capable of taking control through Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Justin Greaves.

Chanderpaul made 56 from 184 balls, while Greaves scored 46. Their resistance kept the visitors in the contest, but Shoriful Islam broke the partnership before Nayeem dismantled the lower order.

Captain Roston Chase remained unbeaten on 43, but West Indies lost their final four wickets for 32 runs.

Bangladesh, however, failed to make the most of their advantage. Shamar Joseph removed Tanzid Hasan for a duck early in the second innings before Chase turned the match with a decisive spell.

Chase dismissed Shadman Islam for 13 and Towhid Hridoy for a duck in the same over, then removed captain Najmul Hossain Shanto for 10. The collapse continued as Jomel Warrican sent back Litton Das for two and Mehidy Hasan Miraz for nine.

Jaker and Nayeem then resisted with an unbroken 26-run partnership for the seventh wicket, offering Bangladesh some stability before bad light brought an early close to play.

With the surface increasingly favouring spin, Bangladesh will need their remaining batters to add valuable runs on the fourth morning. A lead of around 150 or more would give their own spin attack a better opportunity to defend a target, but the task will be demanding against a West Indies side that has regained momentum.
