BNP Acting Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has described demands to implement the July Charter without necessary constitutional amendments as an act of force, saying the process must follow legal and constitutional procedures.

He made the remarks on Saturday (October 31) at a memorial meeting at Haider Ali School and College in Manda, Dhaka, organised by Mugda Thana BNP in memory of its late founding president Shamsul Huda.

Rizvi said the BNP and several other political parties had submitted notes of dissent on the July Charter, urging that differences be resolved through discussions. He said some provisions required ordinary legislation, while others needed constitutional amendments through parliament.

Speaking about the global energy crisis, Rizvi said Tarique Rahman was working to secure alternative fuel and gas supplies from Malaysia and Indonesia to keep industries and households running.

He also highlighted government initiatives, including Family Cards for poor people and efforts to attract foreign investment from Japan and China to create jobs.

Paying tribute to Shamsul Huda, Rizvi described him as a humble and principled politician who had served for nearly 40 years.

State Minister for Railways Habibur Rashid Habib addressed the meeting as the chief speaker. Dhaka South BNP Joint Convener Liton Mahmud chaired the event, attended by other party leaders.
