Additional Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Abdullah Al Zahir has been temporarily suspended following a raid on his rented house in the capital's Khilkhet, where a DJ party involving drug consumption and illicit activities was allegedly being hosted.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a gazette notification on Saturday, October 31, confirming his temporary suspension.

According to the notification, the disciplinary action was taken against him as the incident created a negative perception of the police and severely tarnished the image of the force in public.

Earlier on October 20, the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police raided the three-story building in the Police Housing-1 area under Khilkhet Police Station. At the time, house owner Abdullah Al Zahir was serving as Additional DIG (Personal Management-2) at Police Headquarters.

Based on intelligence inputs regarding overnight DJ parties, drug consumption, and illicit drug trade, DB officers raided the house and detained 84 people—including 26 women, 58 men, and an Afghan national. Officers seized marijuana, yaba, liquor, and drug-consuming paraphernalia from the premises. Following the raid, Zahir was attached to Police Headquarters as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD).

DMP DB Chief Additional Commissioner Md. Shafiqul Islam stated that Zahir had rented out the property via Airbnb. DB Uttara Division Deputy Commissioner Ilias Kabir added that the house was operated through a host and co-host, with co-host Mahbubul Alam detained during the drive.

However, Zahir claimed that the property was listed on Airbnb and other travel platforms for hosting small family gatherings like birthdays or pre-wedding ceremonies, maintaining that drug use and illegal activities were strictly prohibited. He argued that home owners should not be held responsible if tenants engage in criminal acts on rented premises.
