Two killed in Kalai road mishap

KALAI, JOYPURHAT, Nov 1: Two people were killed and another injured when a truck collided with a battery-powered auto-rickshaw on the Kalai-Mokamtala regional highway in Sarail area of Kalai Upazila of the district on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Nur Nabi, 58, and Enamul Haque, 55, both residents of Punot Union in Kalai. The injured, Sohrab Hossain, 52, was taken to hospital.

Police said the auto-rickshaw was struck by a speeding truck travelling towards Joypurhat from the opposite direction, leaving the vehicle wrecked. 

One passenger died on the spot, while Enamul Haque succumbed to his injuries on the way to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura.

Kalai Police Station Investigation Officer Mohammad Imayedul Zahedi confirmed the two deaths, adding that the truck driver and helper fled the scene.
