A Dhaka court has deferred the submission of the further investigation report in the murder case of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi to December 7, as the investigating officer failed to submit it on Tuesday.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam fixed the new date after CID Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdul Kadir Bhuiyan, the investigating officer, sought more time.
Earlier, on January 15, Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho and complainant in the case, filed a no-confidence petition against the charge sheet submitted by the Detective Branch (DB) of police. The court accepted the petition and ordered further investigation.
Hadi was shot by motorcycle-borne assailants around 2:20pm on December 12 in the Box Culvert area under Paltan Model Police Station while travelling by autorickshaw towards Sohrawardy Udyan after completing his election campaign in Motijheel.
He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later shifted to Evercare Hospital. He was flown to Singapore on December 15 for advanced treatment but died there on December 18.
Following the shooting, Abdullah Al Jaber filed a case with Paltan Police Station on December 14. It was initially filed as an attempted murder case but was later converted into a murder case following Hadi's death.
On January 6, the DB submitted a charge sheet against 17 people, including former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappy and Faisal Karim Masud. Five accused, including Faisal, are reportedly absconding.
The charge sheet alleged that political vendetta was behind the killing and that the accused had planned the attack to disrupt the 13th parliamentary election and create fear among voters.
