Two people were killed when a small general aviation aircraft crashed into a residential neighborhood in central Mexico on Monday (November 2), just one minute after taking off from Pachuca National Airport in Hidalgo state, civil aviation authorities confirmed.
Mexico's Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) stated on social media platform X that the single-engine Cessna 210 aircraft, operated by Grupo Aeroespacial Avspace, departed from Pachuca at 9:30AM local time bound for Cuernavaca International Airport in Morelos state.
Preliminary reports indicate the aircraft lost control during its initial ascent roughly 500 meters from the start of Runway 21, crashing onto Tezontle Avenue in the Venta Prieta district of Pachuca, near the airfield perimeter.
Both individuals aboard the aircraft died upon impact, though aviation officials have not yet disclosed their identities or official roles on the flight.
Command officials from Pachuca airport dispatched emergency services to coordinate recovery operations and manage the crash site alongside local law enforcement agencies.
The AFAC has launched a formal administrative investigation into the cause of the disaster, with authorities yet to clarify whether mechanical failure, adverse weather conditions, or pilot error contributed to the crash.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the crash caused ground injuries or structural damage to surrounding vehicles and residential property along the avenue.
