Spanish second-division club Tenerife striker Jesus de Miel has passed away at the age of 30 following a severe collision with an opposing goalkeeper during a Segunda Division match against FC Andorra.

The tragedy occurred on Monday during the seventh minute of injury time with the scoreline tied at 2-2. Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Ono rushed out to clear a long ball near the center circle and accidentally struck Miel's head and chest with his knee while jumping, causing the striker to collapse immediately and lose consciousness.

Medical personnel administered extensive emergency treatment on the field before rushing him to the hospital, where his condition deteriorated, leading to his placement in the intensive care unit (ICU).

The 30-year-old striker passed away on Tuesday morning, with Spanish media outlets reporting that he suffered a cardiac arrest in the ambulance en route to the hospital. Tenerife confirmed his passing, and the match was subsequently abandoned.

The sudden death of Jesus de Miel has sent shockwaves through the global sporting community, with major clubs including Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Bayern Munich expressing deep condolences.

Barcelona legend and Andorra co-owner Gerard Pique, La Liga President Javier Tebas, and tennis icon Rafael Nadal also voiced their sorrow.

Prominent figures across world football, including Kylian Mbappe, Pedri, Rodri, Thibaut Courtois, Sergio Ramos, and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, shared personal tributes. Messi wrote on social media that words could not describe the sorrow, offering prayers and strength to Miel's family and friends.

Following the tragic event, the Royal Spanish Football Federation suspended all men's and women's Spanish Cup matches scheduled for Tuesday. Additionally, UEFA announced a one-minute silence ahead of upcoming Champions League fixtures, while Real Madrid observed a moment of silence prior to their training session.

Spanish police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
