Dear Sir,
I would like to draw the attention of the authorities to the growing threat of plastic pollution through your esteemed newspaper. It has become one of Bangladesh’s most serious environmental challenges.
Every day, huge amounts of plastic bags, bottles, polythene and other plastic waste are discarded indiscriminately. Since these materials take hundreds of years to decompose, they contaminate soil and water, while plastic waste blocking drains contributes to waterlogging. Moreover, discarded plastics in rivers and seas threaten aquatic life, and burning them releases harmful pollutants that worsen air quality and endanger public health. Excessive dependence on single-use plastics and a lack of public awareness have made the situation more difficult to control.
We must therefore restrict polythene use, encourage recycling, ensure proper waste management and promote environmentally friendly alternatives. Public awareness must also be strengthened. I urge the authorities to take effective measures to curb plastic pollution and protect the environment for future generations.
