Bashundhara Shuvosangho has provided sewing machines to 100 women from five upazilas of Lalmonirhat after they completed a three-month free sewing training programme.
The machines were distributed at a programme held at the Lalmonirhat District Council Auditorium on October 25 under an initiative aimed at helping financially disadvantaged women become self-reliant.
Each recipient received a sewing machine to help her start earning from home and contribute to household expenses.
Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muha. Rashedul Haque Pradhan attended the programme as the chief guest, while District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque was present as a special guest.
Imdadul Haque Milon, head of Bashundhara Shuvosangho and adviser to Bashundhara Group, also attended the event.
Speaking at the programme, the deputy commissioner praised the initiative, saying such efforts complemented government initiatives and contributed to national development.
District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque also appreciated Bashundhara’s efforts to support disadvantaged people.
Imdadul Haque Milon said this was the second phase of distributing sewing machines to 100 women in Lalmonirhat. He encouraged the recipients to use their newly acquired skills to earn independently and train other women.
He also mentioned the organisation’s scholarship support for 3,000 students who faced financial difficulties in continuing their education.
Several recipients shared how the initiative could help improve their lives. Sajeda Begum of Kaliganj said she hoped to earn from home and support the education of her three children.
Himu Akter of Aditmari said the sewing machine would allow her to earn money and continue her college education, which had been threatened by financial difficulties.
Another recipient, Shiwli Rani, said the opportunity would help her support her family, including her ailing husband and children.
The initiative aims to create income-generating opportunities for women through vocational training and equipment support.
