The European Commission has ordered TikTok to address concerns over its recommendation algorithm, warning that the platform could face a fine of up to 6 per cent of its global annual turnover under the EU's Digital Services Act.
The Commission's preliminary findings, announced on November 6, said TikTok's personalised 'For You' feed could encourage excessive use and expose children and vulnerable users to harmful content through repeated recommendations.
Regulators also questioned the effectiveness of TikTok's screen-time controls and called for stronger safeguards. TikTok can respond to the findings before the EU makes a final decision.
