Bumper mango production likely at Tanore

RAJSHAHI, Apr 29: The farmers of Tanore upazila here are expecting a bumper mango production amid favourable climatic condition this year.
They are happy over witnessing all the trees at their orchards full of mango pawns. Now they are passing very busy time in taking care of the trees.
During a recent visit, this correspondent found that the fruit setting stage is now progressing well, and the mango tress has started wearing eye-catching looks in the orchards, gardens and homestead areas under favourable climatic condition.
The numbers of mango tree have increased as many farmers planted mango trees at their fallow lands. Now the farmers here are passing very busy time in taking care of tender mangoes across the upazila.
Some farmers said that they cultivate more than 150 varieties of mango including Gopalbhog, Bindhabon, Lengra, Khirsapat, Fazlee, Nakfazlee, Khirsapati, Mohonbhogh, Chyatapori and Lakhna in this upazila.
Several thousands of people including unemployed youths engage themselves in this seasonal business and earn quick profit every year.
Farmers have to spray 12 to 15 times before the mangoes are ripe. They are expecting a bumper mango production this year, farmers added.
While talking to the Daily Observer, Master Motiur Rahman of Krishnapur village said that mango orchards are increasing day by day across the upazila. There was a time when he used to go to Chapainawabganj for mango. But now he himself planted 60 mango trees at his fallow land which have been producing mango since two years.
If the weather goes well in next 40 to 50 days, then he would able to get a bumper mango production with Tk 1 lakh profit this year, he hopped.
Ibrahim Hossain of Chimna village said that he has 80 types of mango trees at his orchard. Now he is very busy in spraying on his mango orchard. If the weather keeps well, he would be able to achieve a bumper production this year, he added.   
Upazila Agriculture Officer Shariful Islam said mango pawns did not fall down for the last few days despite storms. Farmers can achieve bumper mango production applying scientific mango cultivation method avoiding extra pesticides.  
"Our agriculture officers are always suggesting the farmers how to use right pesticide in right time. If the weather goes well for next one and half months, farmers will be able to achieve a bumper mango production this year," the officer added.
