Child patients on the rise in Rajshahi due to sultry weather

RAJSHAHI, July 1: The number of child patients has increased at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in recent times as diseases like diarrhoea, pneumonia, fever, and cough have broken out due to sultry weather.
Doctors and nutritionists advised mothers to be more careful in taking care of their children to avert any attack by the diseases. To keep their children sound and healthy, they asked the mothers to feed them more drinking water and fruits, hospital sources said.
The mothers who have children less than six months have been asked to feed milk taking more times in a day and while staying outside, they have been advised to use umbrella.
According to sources at the outdoor department of RMCH, the number of child patients has increased at the hospital in recent times, and a total of 320 children were admitted in one week.
On the other hand, at the emergency department, 29 children were admitted on last Thursday, 77 admitted on Wednesday and 48 admitted on Tuesday, the sources added.
Talking to The Daily Observer, Sabina Yeasmin, a mother of a child Raisa Yeasmin of No. 24 ward at RMCH said, "My daughter has been suffering from diarrhoea for the last several days with a little fever. I took her home after a she came round a little but the disease attacked again. So, I brought her once more to the hospital."
Asha Khatun, mother of a three-month-old baby of Dashmari area in the city at No. 26 Ward at RMCH said, "My baby has been suffering from pneumonia. We admitted our baby two days ago. Now the condition of the baby is better than before."
Dr. Sanaul Haque, chief doctor of Paediatric Department at RMCH said, "The children have been attacked by pneumonia, diarrhoea and fever for sultry weather in recent times. Around 90 to 100 children are getting admitted at the hospital daily. To keep their children sound and healthy, mothers should feed them saline and pure drinking water."
