18 pry schools run without headmaster at Durgapur

RAJSHAHI, July 28: A total of 18 primary schools have been running without any headmasters at Durgapur upazila for long.
Besides, 20 posts of assistant teachers have been lying vacant at 83 primary schools for long.
Among those primary schools, only three teachers are running the schools. As a result, the academic activities are being hampered.
According to Durgapur Upazila Education Office, there are total 83 primary schools including 34 new and 45 old ones in the upazila while the posts of headmasters at 18 primary schools have been lying vacant for long. Besides, 20 posts of assistant teachers are also vacant here.
Those schools where the headmaster posts are running vacant are- Hoza Government Primary School, Joykrishnapur Government Primary School, Kismat Bogra Government Primary School, Palashbari Government Primary School, Arail Government Primary School, Shampur Government Primary School, Ratugram Government Primary School, Nandigram Government Primary School, Terogharia Government Primary School, Chowpukuria Government Primary School, and Islamabad Government Primary School.
On the other hand, some schools including Shampur Government Primary School, Palashbari Government Primary School, and Chowbaria Government Primary School are running with only three teachers and so the academic activities at the schools are being hampered.
Arshaful Islam, of Durgapur Municipality said that the education of the children here is being hampered as they could not get all classes regularly. As a result, they are lagging behind comparing to the students of other schools in the district. The concerned authority should take measures to fill up the vacant posts at those schools as soon as possible, he added.
President of Upazila Education Samity and Headmaster of Belghoria Primary School Mohammad Ali said, there are 18 primary schools which are running without any headmasters. Besides, 20 assistant teacher posts are also lying vacant here.
Though upazila education office applied to the higher authority to fill up the vacant posts but there is yet any response.
Upazila Education Officer Gofran Halim said, "We have informed the high authorities that the 18 primary schools are running without any headmasters for long. The other teachers of the schools have to bear extra pressure to run the activity of the schools."
Rajshahi District Education Officer AM Kashem said that the headmaster post is now second class job while Bangladesh Public Service Commission should come forward to fill up the posts.
He further said, "We have sent informed the education ministry about the crisis of the teachers. We hope that the authority will take immediate measures to fill up the posts."
