RAJSHAHI, Sept 22: The visit of Awami League (AL) President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has made the grassroots level politics of AL more active.
The AL leaders and activists said, the visit has made the organisation more powerful from the grassroots level.
Ignoring the hot weather, several lakh people joined the huge gathering of PM Sheikh Hasina on September 14; it will play a positive impact on the upcoming parliamentary and city corporation elections, said the political analysts.
President of District AL and lawmaker Omar Faruk Chowdhury said, "The PM's visit to Rajshahi has stirred the organisation, and the grassroots has become more active and alive. The PM spoke of relief for the flood-affected people. She focused on the road renovation. These issues will create a positive impact on the general public. Our leader is the symbol of unity. If we have an organisational partition among us, it will be overcome. Besides, the relations among the leaders and activists have been restored."
The gathering organised by Paba Upazila AL began at noon on September 14 on Sugar Factory ground in Haripur of the district.
AL leaders and activists including mass people of different parts of the district and the division started to gather from 11am on the day. Rajshahi Metropolitan AL including leaders and workers also joined the meeting.
In presence of several lakh people, the public meeting turned into a 'public ocean'. After 2pm, the leaders and people gathered outside the field of railway tracks, Harian railway station, sugarcane field and other croplands. All of them listened to the speech of PM.
The PM said, the mass people have to be conscious about the BNP-Jamaat conspiracy. She called for the resistance to BNP-Jamaat terrorism and also gave guidance on the upcoming parliamentary and City Corporation elections.
Meanwhile, the PM said, Bangladesh will become a middle income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2031. In the last two terms of AL, there has been widespread development in every sector of the country. The general public will be informed about this development activity.
The PM urged the leaders and activists to come together to forget all the disunity and misunderstanding to achieve victory in the upcoming elections.
Earlier, the PM inaugurated and laid the foundation of 27 development projects in Rajshahi. If these projects are implemented, an unprecedented development in each sector including agriculture, industry, health, education, employment and communication will occur in this region. The projects will be implemented in each upazila of the district. It will create a positive impact on people about AL and its organisations.
General Secretary of Godagari Upazila Krishak League Shafiul Karim Emon Mondal said, "The direction of the PM has inspired the leaders and activists as well as the ordinary people. As a result, general voters have been informed about the development activities of the present government. They also know about the plans for the next day about the development of the region."
"Besides, our local MP Omar Faruq Chowdhury made extensive development in the region. If needed, we will go the mass people and tell them about development activities of AL. We are hopeful that in the next parliamentary elections, the general voters will have a positive impact on these issues," he added.
A member of the central executive committee of AL AHM Khairuzzaman Liton said, "The PM has become the role model of development. Her government's development activities are acclaimed throughout the world. She informed the common people about the development activities. Besides, she also told about her future plans for the development of Rajshahi region."
