52 pry schools run without head teacher at Tanore

RAJSHAHI, Oct 9: A total of 52 primary schools at Tanore upazila of the district have been running without any head teacher for long.
Not only head teacher posts, but also assistant teacher posts have remained vacant in the 10 primary schools at the upazila for long. These schools are running year after year without any head teacher.
As a result, the teaching system is being hampered, field sources said.  
According to the sources at Durgapur Education Office, they have a total of 127 primary schools in the upazila. Of these, there are no head teachers in 52 schools. Assistant teacher posts are vacant in 10 schools.
Among the total 52 head teacher posts, two posts are vacant at Tanore municipality, five at Mundumala municipality, 14 at Panchador union parishad, two at Saranjai union, three at Tandol union, one at Chandraria union, 14 at Kalma union, five at Baidai union, and six at Kamargaon union.
Besides, a total of 10 posts of assistant teacher have been vacant for a long time.
While talking to The Daily Observer, some teachers said that due to the retirement of the chief teachers, these vacant posts of the schools were created; so far, the recruitment process has not started.
Since the officers were busy in the education office, they did not take any initiative to fill up the gaps, they maintained.
The administrative activities of the school are not managed properly due to the vacancy of head teacher posts; many of the teachers are doing Bachelor of Physical Education (BPhEd) which has also created a big crisis in teaching system, they added.
Upazila Primary School Teachers Samity President Saimuddin said, generally the head teachers are busy in organising monthly meetings and preparing reports;  assistant teachers teach students; if there is no head teacher, the administrative work of the school is done by other teachers; so it is difficult for them to teach the students properly.  As a result, the quality of education is severely hampered, he added.
Primary Education Officer of Tanore upazila Shamim Ahmed Khan said that the head teacher in all schools control the departmental activities. Due to lack of head teachers, the schools are plunged into various crises. The issue of teacher crisis has been reported to senior officials, he added.
Assistant teachers will be appointed as head teachers through promotion; but promotions are stuck because a case in relation to this is pending.  The teachers' crisis will be solved soon, he hopped.
