Police have arrested the fugitive convict, who was sentenced to life-term imprisonment for raping a teenage girl in 2001, from Dhaka's Ashulia on Tuesday.
The arrested is Easin Ali, 60, a resident of Purbadelua village under the upazila.
Additional Superintendent of Police in Sirajganj (Ullapara Circle) Amrita Kumar Sutradar confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
According to prosecution, the arrested along with his cohorts attacked at the victim Purnima Rani Shil's house and assaulted her parents. They then, forcibly took the girl, an eighth grader to a field where they violated her repeatedly.
Following the incident, the victim's father Anil Chandra lodged a case with the concerned police station accusing 16 people.
Later, a court sentenced 11 of them to life term imprisonment on May 11 of 2011.
Since then, Easin and four other accused went into hiding.
"Police had been conducting drives to arrest the fugitive convict and on information, they raided at Ashulia and arrested Easin" said the ASP Amrita Kumar Sutradar.
He then, sent to jail through a court and efforts are on to arrest the other four, added the ASP.
