The Home Ministry temporarily suspended the superintendent of
Narsingdi district
jail and its jailer from their post due to allegations of negligence of duties.
The suspended two officials are the superintendent of the district jail Abul Kalam Azad, and its Jailer, Kamrul Islam.
Confirming the matter, the District Commissioner (DC) of Narsingdi Dr. Badiul Alam, said that the Home Ministry have issued a circular on Tuesday afternoon announcing their suspensions.
He stated that the suspension was due to their negligence of their duties during the incidents of prisoner escape and the looting of weapons and ammunition from the jail.
"The both officials have been attached to the Ministry of Home Affairs' Security and Service Division," he added.
Regarding the prison break, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that among the 826 inmates in the Narsingdi Jail, there were nine dangerous militants, including two female militants. He accused a group of facilitating the escape of these militants, with the intention of creating chaos in the country.
The Home Minister also said that two investigation committees have been formed to investigate whether there was any negligence of the two officials in the prison attack.
"If any negligence is found, those responsible will also be brought to justice," he added.
At least 33 weapons and ammunition have been recovered, and 95 people have been arrested in connection with the looting so far.
