Man beaten to death on robber suspicion in Savar

A man was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of being a robber in Savar municipality on Tuesday. 

Three others were also beaten by the crowd and later handed over to Savar Model Police Station.
The victim Mujibur, 50, was a resident of Dhusor village in Uthuli, Manikganj, and lived in the Arapara neighborhood of Savar Municipality. 

The three injured individuals are Joynal Abedin, 15, Shipon, 15, and Sohan, 17, all residents of different areas within the Savar Municipality.

Eyewitnesses reported that four individuals were caught near Rajalak Farm and were beaten by locals who suspected them of being robbers. When they were taken to Savar Upazila Health Complex, doctors declared one of them dead, while the other three received treatment before being handed over to the police.

Dr. Saymul Huda from health complex confirmed the death, adding, "A person was brought in dead early Tuesday morning after being beaten by a mob. The police were immediately informed."

Savar Model Police Station officer-in-charge Atikur Rahman said legal actions were underway to be taken.

One of the detained minors, who claimed to be innocent, said, "I don't know the person who died. I work at a furniture shop and was out early in the morning for work. The locals caught us with that person and beat us, then handed us over to the police."

Rabbi Hossain, the son-in-law of the deceased Mujibur, stated, "My father-in-law used to live in Savar but now stays at home most of the time, though he occasionally comes to Savar. I don't know what he was doing there."
