BNP factional clash leave one dead, 30 injured in Faridpur

A clash between two factions of Nagarkanda upazila BNP unit in Faridpur district has left one dead and 30 others injured on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Kabir Bhuiyan, 55, from Chagoldi village in Kodalia Shahidnagar Union of the upazila.

Senior Assistant Police Superintendent Asaduzzaman Shakil confirmed the death.

According to locals, a dispute between BNP's central committee's organizational secretary for Faridpur division, Shama Obaid Islam Rinku, and the central Krishak Dal general secretary, Shahidul Islam Bablu, have been ongoing over local dominance. On Wednesday, Bablu was scheduled to attend a rally in the upazila, while Shama had announced an event for Swechasebak Dal.

This led to a heightened tensions between the two groups. Supporters from both sides, armed with local weapons, engaged in chasing and counter-chasing, resulting in violent clashes. The clashes continued till afternoon, which left at least 30 people injured, with victims admitted to Nagarkanda Health Complex. 

Kabir Bhuiyan, who was critically injured, died while being transported to Faridpur.

Nagarkanda Police Station officer-in-charge, Md. Aminur Rahman, stated that police have brought the situation under control and the area is now in normal, with police presence maintained.
