A young volunteer drowned in
Feni floodwater as a strong current washed him away while assisting in rescue operations on Thursday.
The victim Saiful Islam Sagar, was son of Shahid Ullah Mia and hailed from South Shyampur village under Karpara union of Ramganj upazila in Laxmipur district. He worked as a mason by profession.
Md. Yunus, a member of ward No. 2 in the union, confirmed the incident on Friday afternoon.
According to local sources, Sagar had been working as a mason in Chattogram. When severe flooding struck several districts, including Feni, Sagar’s friends and colleagues organized a rescue mission to aid those affected. On Thursday, August 22nd, Sagar joined his friends in Feni to help rescue flood victims, where he tragically drowned.
Md. Yunus, the local ward member, stated, "Sagar drowned in Feni while trying to rescue people from the floodwaters. However, his body has not yet been brought back home. All necessary assistance will be provided to his family to bring his body home."
Ramganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Sharmin Islam mentioned that she was informed about the incident via a phone call but lacked detailed information. She assured that further inquiries would be made.
