Two cases have been filed against former Member of Parliament for Rajshahi-1 (Godagari-Tanore) constituency Omar Faruk Chowdhury.

The both cases were lodged at Godagari Police Station on Sunday evening and night.

Officer-in-charge of the police station Ataur Rahman confirmed the information, stating that the first case was filed by Abdul Hamid Babul, a BNP activist from Faradpur village in Godagari upazila. The case names 44 leaders and activists of (AL) Awami League and includes 500-600 unidentified individuals as accused. The case relates to an alleged attack and shooting during the student movement in the upazila on August 5.

Meanwhile, the second case was filed by Tahasen Ali, another BNP activist from Domkal village in the same upazila which names 22 AL leaders and activists, along with 50-60 unidentified individuals. The charges stem from allegations of vote rigging on December 30, 2018, during the 11th National Parliamentary Election, where it is claimed that the Laskarhati polling station was seized and ballots were openly marked for boat symbol (Awami League's electoral symbol).

OC Ataur Rahman also mentioned that former MP Omar Faruk Chowdhury has been named as the instigator in both cases.

"All the accused are currently on run, and none have been arrested so far, though efforts to apprehend them are ongoing," added the OC.
