Train services between
Chattogram and
Dhaka are set to resume Monday night, after a four-day suspension caused by severe flooding.
The Dhaka-bound intercity train Turna will depart from Chattogram Station at 11:30 PM, followed by the Chattogram Mail at 11:45 PM.
Md. Anisur Rahman, the Divisional Transportation Officer (Chattogram) of Bangladesh Railway, confirmed the resumption of services.
He said that the Dhaka-Chattogram railway line consists of two lanes, of which the Chattogram-to-Dhaka lane was severely damaged by the floodwaters. The other lane, from Dhaka to Chattogram, sustained less damage and has been repaired for train operations. Train communications on the route will be resume partially tonight, with a full schedule expected to resume on Tuesday.
Earlier, the flood situation in Cumilla and Feni has worsened due to heavy rainfall and upstream water from India since Wednesday (August 21), submerging parts of Moulvibazar, Habiganj, Brahmanbaria, Cumilla, Feni, Noakhali, Khagrachari, and Chattogram districts. The railway line in Feni was submerged, leading the railway authorities to suspend train services indefinitely from Thursday afternoon.
