Youth beaten to death over theft suspicion

A suspected thief was beaten to death reportedly by a mob in Rajshahi's Tanore upazila on Monday night.

The deceased Sohan Ali, 18, was son of Samsuddin and a resident of Elamdihi area in the upazila.
Citing locals, Tanore Police Station officer-in-charge Abdur Rahim said some valuables were stolen from some shops at Ilamdihi Bazar around 11 PM. After that people stand vigil at night and caught Sohan red-handed. The angry crowd then, beat him up mercilessly, leaving him critically injured.

Later, he was taken to Tanore Upazila Health Complex where he succumbed to his injuries, said the police official.

The body was taken to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy and legal actions will be taken in this regard, added the OC.
