Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested three smugglers along with a large consignment of Indian goods worth approximately Tk 7.34 crore and from Maheshpur border in Jhenidah district.
The detention took place on Tuesday morning at Bittipara village in Kusumpur area under Maheshpur upazila.
The arrested individuals are Riaz, from Pipulbari village in Maheshpur, Imam Hossain, from Kalachandpur village in Narail's Lohagara upazila, and Mobarak Ali, from Moheshkhali upazila of Cox's Bazar.
According to BGB sources, the seized contraband includes seven bottles of Indian LSD, mobile phones, georgette sarees, various cosmetics, and medicines. The total market value of the goods has been estimated at 7.34 crore.
Major Molla Obaidur Rahman, Deputy Director of BGB-58, reported that the smugglers were attempting to enter Bangladesh from India with sacks on their heads when BGB patrol teams challenged them. Although some of the smugglers tried to flee, BGB personnel were able to capture three individuals along with the mentioned goods.
Legal proceedings for drug and smuggling charges against the suspects are currently underway.
