A severe traffic jam was formed along a 12-kilometer stretch of the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila.

The jam has caused significant hardship for both drivers and passengers, who have been stuck on the highway for hours. Since early Wednesday morning, the highway from Meghna Bridge to Kanchpur Bridge area was heavily congested. This situation has forced travelers to endure long delays, with many waiting for hours to reach their destinations.
Locals said that the traffic jam started early in the morning, but the exact reason was unclear. However, police officers explained that the congestion is due to an influx of trucks and pickup vans carrying relief supplies to flood-affected areas. These relief vehicles have been given priority on the road, causing other vehicles to be sidelined, leading to the heavy traffic.

Kanchpur Highway Police Station officer-in-charge Razaul Haque confirmed that the traffic jam was exacerbated by the high volume of relief vehicles traveling to and from flood-affected areas.

The extra load of these vehicles on the highway has created the severe congestion. Highway police are working in various locations to manage the situation, added the OC.
