Muggers kill easybike driver to steal his vehicle, 2 held

An autorickshaw driver was killed reportedly by a group of muggers to steal his easybike at Chitalmari upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday.

The deceased was Anwar Molla alias Ano, 45, son of Soleman Molla, a resident of Majhidanga village under Bagerhat Sadar upazila. Later, the body was recovered from Santoshpur village under Chitalmari upazila in the small hours of Saturday.

According to the family members, Anwar was heading towards Chitalmari from Bagerhat Sadar riding his autorickshaw with passengers on Friday night. As he didn't returned home late night, they started looking for him and tracked down the location of the autorickshaw. Later, with the help of locals, police arrested two muggers along with the autorickshaw from Prijpur's Kawkhali upazila.

Following the statement of the arrested duo, a rescue team from nearby fire service recovered the body and handed over to police, said Chitalmari Police Station officer-in-charge Swapan Chandra Roy.

 A case was filed in this regard and the body was sent it to Bagerhat General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Investigations are on to find out any others were involved with the incident and legal actions will be taken upon autopsy report, added the OC.
